About Terence Goh Lin Hon

Dr. Terence Goh is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon with the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. He graduated from National University of Singapore in 2001, completed his Basic Surgical Training in Singapore General Hospital, before embarking on Advanced Surgical Training (Plastic Surgery) at the same hospital. He is also a member of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and has a Masters of Medicine (Surgery). His subspecialties are Reconstructive Microsurgery (with special interest in head & neck surgery, lower limb salvage and reconstruction, and lymphatic surgery), Cosmetic Surgery (with special interest in blepharoplasty and rhinoplasty).

After being in practice for more than 10 years, in 2012, under the sponsorship of the hospital, he obtained the Singhealth Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) award for further specialty training (Plastic Surgery) in Seoul, South Korea, at the prestigious Asan Medical Centre under Professor Joon Pio Hong. His training encompassed various aspects of reconstructive surgery, as well as, cosmetic surgery. During this period of time, he had the opportunity to serve as a visiting surgeon with some of the top cosmetic and reconstructive surgeons in Seoul, South Korea.

Dr. Goh takes pride in constantly refining his technical skills in order to ensure that the patient is able to achieve the best outcome tailored to their specific needs with superior results. He is dedicated to improving the well being of his patients through the use of cutting edge technology resulting in high patient satisfaction, high success rates and the best medical and surgical outcomes.

His current workload includes reconstruction of complex head and neck cancers, and lower limb reconstruction after trauma, cancer surgery or from diabetic infections. His cosmetic workload includes blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, body contouring and liposuction. Dr. Goh believes firmly that good reconstructive surgery skills form the foundation for development of safe aesthetic surgery. He divides his time and tries to strike a balance between developing both skill sets. He champions safe aesthetic surgery and sits as a member on the Aesthetic Surgery Guidelines Workgroup, Academy of Medicine Singapore.

Dr. Goh is passionate about training and education and is currently and Adjunct Assistant Professor in Duke-NUS Medical School and a Senior Clinical Lecturer in NUS. He is also part of the core faculty of the Singhealth Plastic Surgery Residency Program. He has mentored many juniors in various clinical and translational research projects. He is committed to continual medical education, attending both international and national conferences throughout the year sto bring back the latest innovations. He has authored more than 20 scientific publications in the top 3 plastic surgery journals (Plastic Reconstructive Surgery, Annals of Plastic Surgery and Journal of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery). His scientific work is well cited and he has delivered numerous presentations at medical conferences worldwide. He has numerous invitations to speak on reconstructive plastic surgery. He believes that the learning journey is constant one and that his patients deserve the best possible techniques in surgery available. He also gives back by sharing his expertise with fellow physicians, students and trainees.

His research interests lies in reconstructive microsurgery and cadaveric dissections. For his research work on the masseter nerve for facial reanimation, he was awarded a podium presentation for Best Clinical Paper at the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery. He has served as an instructor and chairman for numerous cadaver courses for both reconstruction and aesthetic surgery. He is currently still working in close collaboration with his mentor Professor JP Hong at Asan Medical Centre, Seoul with a recent publication on osteomyelitis in PRS in 2017. He is also collaborating with Dr. Geoffrey Hallock at Pennsylvania, USA to do a 3-center study on outcomes in lower limb reconstruction.

Dr. Goh has a keen interest in volunteer mission work having volunteered his time with the Tzu Chi organisation. He currently volunteers his time with Operation Smile and the Ang Kor Wat Hospital for Children. With the help of his colleagues, he has started a plastic surgery program at the Ang Kor Wat Hospital for Children. He has also volunteered as a medical specialist for the Singapore Grand Prix Formula One medical team and the Singapore Rugy Sevens medical support.
